Laura Teodosio

Laura has over 18 years experience designing and building innovative software solutions involving images, media and information. As one of the founders of Salient Stills, she blended her knowledge of media, video and software to conceive key features and original algorithms for VideoFOCUS. At Salient Stills, Laura ensures the software meets the changing demands of users in each market, taking every opportunity to elaborate on the possibilities the product delivers. Further, Laura works with government and contract customers, helping to create unique solutions to meet their imaging needs.

One of the first students at the pioneering MIT Media Lab, Laura moved on to work with the Advanced Technology Human Interface Group at Apple Computer, where she came to understand the inherent value of user centered design combined with innovative technologies.

Laura holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Yale University, a master's degree from MIT, and is the holder of two US and one Japanese patent.

 

 

 

 

Jeff Hunter

Jeff brings his 15 years of experience in the development of state-of-the-art of image and video processing systems to Salient Stills. Taking advantage of an extensive background in R&D and contract and product engineering, Jeff is the chief surveyor of all contract and product development initiatives.

Prior to his work with Salient Stills, Jeff headed software development for security and surveillance product company Millivision LLC. While there, he was responsible for all image and video related software development, spearheading a great number of federally funded imaging research initiatives.

Jeff holds a BS in Physics and PhD in Optics and Semiconductor Physics from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland.

Nicholas Negroponte

Nicholas is founder and Chairman of the One Laptop per Child non-profit association. He is currently on leave from MIT, where he was co-founder and director of the MIT Media Laboratory, and the Jerome B. Wiesner Professor of Media Technology. A graduate of MIT, Nicholas was a pioneer in the field of computer-aided design, and has been a member of the MIT faculty since 1966. Conceived in 1980, the Media Laboratory opened its doors in 1985. He is also author of the 1995 best seller, Being Digital, which has been translated into more than 40 languages. In the private sector, Nicholas serves on the board of directors for Motorola, Inc. and as general partner in a venture capital firm specializing in digital technologies for information and entertainment. He has provided start-up funds for more than 40 companies, including Wired magazine and Salient Stills, Inc.

 

 

 

 

Walter Bender (co-founder)

Walter is president for software and content development of One Laptop per Child, a non-profit association. He is also a senior scientist and director of the Electronic Publishing group at the MIT Media Laboratory, where he served as Executive Director for a number of years. Mr. Bender also directs the Gray Matters special interest group at the Lab, which focuses on technology's impact on the aging population. A founding member of the Media Laboratory, Mr. Bender is engaged in the study of new information technologies, particularly those that affect people directly. Much of the research addresses the idea of building upon the interactive styles associated with existing media and extending them into domains where a computer is incorporated into the interaction. He has participated in much of the pioneering research in the field of electronic publishing and personalized interactive multi-media. He received his BA from Harvard University in 1977. Mr. Bender joined the Architecture Machine Group at MIT in 1978. He received his MS at MIT in 1980.

 

 

 

 

Walter S. (Buzz) Burrage, Jr.

Buzz is founder and managing partner of the Manchester Fund, a private money management firm. He is co-founder of Consorico Industrial Electronico, a group of high technology electronic, telephone communications and computer component manufacturers based in Mexico. A graduate of Columbia University, Buzz is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research, an international organization devoted to education, ethics, and professional conduct in the security industry. Buzz has been instrumental in the founding of a number of technology start-up companies. He is an active member of several boards of directors including Salient Stills.

 

 

 

 

Claude Sheer

Currently a Managing Partner of Oyster International, an international management consultancy focused on sustained business innovation in large multinational corporations. Claude last served as President of Ziff-Davis Publishing, Chief Internet Strategist, and member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Sheer also represented the company on the Board of Red Herring. Mr. Sheer is also a founding principal in Barn Ventures, LLC which invests in and accelerates early stage companies. He serves on the boards of Lionbridge Technologies Inc (LIOX) and the State of Maine Small Enterprise Growth Fund. He is a Trustee of The New Hampton School and is the Chair of PopTech.

 

 

 

 

Stan Sclaroff

Stan Sclaroff, associate professor in Boston University's Computer Science Dept. and founder of the university's Image and Video Computing Group where his work covers the areas of computer vision, computer graphics and pattern recognition. Stan received his Ph.D. from the MIT Media Laboratory and his undergraduate degree from Tufts University.

 

 

 

 

Richard Simpson

Richard Simpson, a member of the consulting firm CMG Partners, has been an executive in range of public and private companies such as CMGI, Atex, and Flavors Technology. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School, he has served on the boards of eight technology companies. His consulting activities focus on growth strategies and sales and marketing effectiveness.
